70th Independence Day of India was celebrated on 15 August 2016 at India House, Phnom Penh which was attended by large number of members from Indian community, Cambodian nationals and Friends of India.
H.E. Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia unfurled the national flag followed by singing of National Anthem. Ambassador Srivastava read out the Address to the Nation by the Hon’ble President of India.
Various groups from Indian community and Indian Association of Cambodia (IAC) presented patriotic songs on the occasion. A short film highlighting 70 Initiatives by the Government as part of the celebrations of 70th year of Independence was also screened. International Day of Yoga certificates were also presented by the Ambassador.
Khmer Times brought out a Special Supplement on this occasion. It carried a special message from Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, who congratulated all Indians living in the Kingdom and India on the momentous occasion of 70th Independence Day and wished people of India peace, prosperity and well being. On his part, Ambassador of India to Cambodia conveyed sincere gratitude to Cambodia for their warmth and long standing friendship towards India and wished his compatriots as well as Cambodian friends good health and success.
